Flood and Drought Data

Floods and droughts can have significant negative impacts on watersheds. I took some time to review climate data, and noted a few major flood and drought events. Checkout the presentation in the link below:

Benthic Macroinvertebrates

Stream restoration is a great way to improve the biological function of a stream and the overall health of a watershed system. The use of Macroinvertebrates to evaluate a streams health is one way field biologist conduct a rapid assessment. I conducted a small study using macroinvertebrates and the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality's method for rapid assessment to determine the heath of a restored stream in Fairfax County, VA.  Benthic Macroinvertebrates response to the Glade Stream Restoration

What is a Stream?

Water travels across land to lakes and oceans via streams and rivers, but whats the difference? Are streams the same thing as rivers? Are all streams the alike? I discuss a few stream basics in this presentation.

Virginia has many named and unnamed streams that transport water from the Appalachian mountains to the Chesapeake Bay. Bull Run is just one of those streams, but the extent of its watershed might surprise you.

Welcome!

Welcome to the Bull Run Watershed Exploration page! Bull Run is located in Virginia and is a part of the vast Chesapeake Bay watershed. I am excited to share my exploration of  Bull Run in the coming weeks. Specifically, we will investigate what make the Bull Run tributary a unique and important natural resource, and why it is worth preserving.
